WWE superstar-turned-actor John Cena may be gearing up for his next big film role as the politically incorrect video game hero ‘Duke Nukem’. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cena is circling the lead role in Paramount’s big screen adaptation of the popular video game franchise.
The Duke Nukem video game series follows a muscle bound, cigar-chomping action hero named Duke, who fights to protect the Earth from alien invaders. The series debuted in 1991, and has remained fairly popular among gamers ever since.
Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes will produce the film, though no director is currently on board. The company has also produced films such as 2014’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and the ‘Purge’ franchise. Cena will have a lead role in the Transformers spinoff film, Bumblebee, which is also produced by Bay. Bumblee will hit theaters on December 21st of this year.
