‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators Developing A Series Of New ‘Star Wars’ Films

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of the Emmy Award winning ‘Game of Thrones,’ will journey from Westeros to a galaxy far, far away. Today, Disney has officially announced that the duo will write and produce a new series of ‘Star Wars’ films.

The new films will be separate from Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson’s upcoming trilogy, and will also be separate from the episodic Skywalker saga.

While the announcement is a surprising one, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has nothing but praise for the men behind HBO’s hit series.

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

Benioff and Weiss clearly share Kennedy’s excitement in a joint statement given today.

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

Though no release date for any films from Benioff and Weiss are currently set, it’s safe to say that the pair are a welcome addition to the Star Wars family, and we eagerly await any new details from this upcoming slate of films.
