We’ve barely been getting some official updates on Matt Reeves The Batman, but now rumor has it that the movie will actually be based on Batman: Year One. What’s more, it’s possible that the movie will feature more than one classic villain.
According to Revenge of the Fans, Reeves is looking for a 25–30-year-old actor to play a younger Bruce Wayne. Just in case you didn’t know, Year One’s story line involves following Bruce’s first year as the Caped Crusader, which would make sense that the production is looking to cast someone who looks younger than Ben Affleck.
This means that if Batman v Superman bore a passing resemblance to Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, then The Batman will bear a resemblance to Miller’s Batman: Year One.
For those who aren’t familiar with the story arc, Batman: Year One by Frank Miller tries to recount the Dark Knight’s very first year as Gotham’s Caped Crusader. Of course, fans might be a bit familiar with the premise – Year One has been adapted for film before with Chris Nolan’s Batman Begins taking a lot of notes from the comic. If the rumor is true, then Reeves is going to have to create a very different take on Year One.
For now, we should all take these as rumors. There were a lot of reveals for the DCEU at SDCC 2018, but no official updates on The Batman. I guess Reeves is just really taking his time to get this movie done right.
No release date has been set for The Batman.
